Application Process
How do I apply for a VET course?
1. Review the course information
Course information is provided on the Subject Selection Portal.
Read the course information carefully and make sure you understand the requirements, including any entry or participation requirements, assessment, work placement, equipment, travel, fees or other course commitments.
Students should speak with their school if they have questions about the course or require support to participate.
2. Complete the school subject selection process
Follow the subject selection and application process advised by the school and submit all required information by the relevant deadlines.
Additional application requirements or earlier deadlines may apply for courses delivered through an external VET provider (EVET) or an SCS Training Centre.
Applications for these courses must be endorsed by the student’s home school.
3. Course suitability and pattern of study
Before enrolment, the school will consider whether the VET course is suitable for the student and whether it can be included in the student’s pattern of study.
This may include consideration of:
- the student’s interests, pathway goals and previous learning or experience;
- language, literacy and numeracy skills;
- digital literacy;
- any course-specific entry or participation requirements;
- the student’s capacity to participate safely in practical training and work placement, where applicable;
- any support or reasonable adjustments that may be required;
- NESA pattern of study requirements and any course exclusions; and
- any overlap with other VET courses, including common units of competency.
4. Where additional support may be required, the school will work with the student and their parent/carer to identify appropriate support or reasonable adjustments.
5. Review the VET Privacy Notice
Before enrolment, students and parents/carers should review the following which explains how personal information is collected, used, stored and disclosed for VET enrolment, training, assessment and reporting purposes:
- Sydney Catholic Schools Vocational Education and Training Privacy Notice; and
- Sydney Catholic Schools Privacy Notice
6. Provide a Unique Student Identifies
Students undertaking nationally recognised training must have a valid Unique Student Identifier (USI).
Students who already have a USI must provide it as part of the enrolment process. Students who do not have a USI can apply for one through the Australian Government USI website.
7. Complete any additional enrolment requirements
Depending on the course, delivery location or training arrangement, students may be required to provide additional information or complete further requirements before enrolment can be confirmed.
The school will advise students of any additional requirements that apply.
Before Enrolling
Students and parents/carers should ensure they understand the requirements and commitments associated with the VET course before enrolment.
Course information may include:
- the VET course and nationally recognised qualification;
- course duration and delivery arrangements;
- assessment requirements;
- mandatory work placement requirements, where applicable;

Course Fees
Costs may vary depending on the course and delivery arrangement and may include course fees, equipment, clothing, personal protective equipment, travel or other course-specific requirements.
For courses delivered at a students school where the primary enrolment is held, the school will inform students and parents/carers of any costs associated.
For Training Centre Courses and EVET Courses, students are informed of the cost of their VET course prior to accepting their offer.
Training Centre Course Fees 2027-2028 Cohort are added to school fees annually. Courses delivered at the Training Centres are known as TCVET.
New Students – If students have accepted their offer, however, they decide to withdraw, they must withdraw by the 4th February of their first year to avoid the course fee.
Second Year of Study – Students who do not wish to continue into the second year of a two-year course must submit the Withdrawal Form by the end of Term 3 of the first year of the course to avoid being liable for the second-year course fee.
The TCVET & EVET Withdrawal Form must be completed prior to billable dates
- Year 1 – 4th February 2027
- Year 2 – End of Term 3 2027
Where a student from an RI/MPJP or Independent School accesses a VET course through an SCS Training Centre, Sydney Catholic Schools invoices the student’s Home School for the applicable course charge. These charges are payable by the Home School to Sydney Catholic Schools. Sydney Catholic Schools does not invoice the student or parent/carer directly.
Each Home School determines whether any part of the course charge is passed on to the student or parent/carer in accordance with its own fee arrangements. Where a Home School elects to pass on any part of the course charge to the student or parent/carer, the Home School must advise them of the amount payable and any associated payment, withdrawal and refund arrangements before the student accepts the course offer and enrolment is finalised.
